Thomas Heath
In 1981 Thomas was awarded a Cub Scouts Tidiest Tent certificate. And so began a life devoted to making things clear — as a writer, teacher and consultant. Thomas started The Art of Explaining as a way to share what he learned working with more than 20 leading brands. He uses bikes and trains, smart technology, fresh air and very little paper.
Gillian Colhoun
Gillian is the perfect person to have in the room when you've got a whiteboard, marker pen and 'brainstorming session' penciled in. She's spent the last ten years helping designers and businesses leap the hurdles of brand name, position and story, and putting everything into writing; beautifully.
Pete Cornes
Pete's out to obliterate the turgid and tedious. He's got a first class English degree, so he knows how language works and which small change will make the big difference. He's also got a mind wired for technology, and we marvel at the elegant management systems he creates for our larger projects.

Sarah Farley
Sarah began telling stories at the age of four and was writing them down soon after. By the time she was ten she’d catalogued her growing library both alphabetically and by genre. Yes – she’s creative and technically minded, with an eye for detail and a gift for words getting in the order right.
Janet Gordon
Janet is our training specialist. Neuro-linguistic programming? Experiential learning? Psychometric profiles? Janet can help. Before conquering the corporate world Janet worked in theatre, so she knows about presenting with impact. And she's on a mission to free us all from the constraints of PowerPoint.
Clare Heath
Clare is our project manager. She's looked after large company accounts and she knows how to run complex writing and training projects to exact deadlines. She makes things easy for the rest of us by keeping the plan clear and simple. And she's never been late. Ever.
Bill Hilton
How’s business? Ask Bill. He’s helped more than 200 companies of all sizes, he's the author of Working for yourself and spent a year editing Business Matters, the UK's largest magazine for SMEs. You can also ask Bill about grammar: as a gifted teacher of English he loves getting people fired up about writing at his workshops.
Julia Johnson
Julia is our legal writing specialist. We have young Edward and Isla Johnson to thank for Julia's current break from being a solicitor — because she's also a brilliant writer, with an appetite for banishing legalese from legal writing.
